Woodinville, Washington – a premier tourist destination with a population of approximately 12,000.  Located about 20 miles northeast of Seattle, Woodinville offers the benefits of a bustling urban center against the backdrop of the picturesque Sammamish River Valley.  Woodinville is known for its tourism industries with over 100 tasting rooms for wine, beer and spirits.  Situated close to many outdoor activities such as biking, hiking and boating.  

The City directly provides services for its citizens including:  planning, permitting, code enforcement, street/storm water maintenance, infrastructure construction and maintenance, parks, and general administrative services.  Various contracts are maintained by the City providing a number of other services including: police services, municipal court, jail and detention, animal control, and solid waste.  Separate from the City, Woodinville citizens receive fire protection from the Woodinville Fire & Rescue District, as well as water and sewer services from the Woodinville Water District.


Under general direction performs a variety of complex accounting and fiscal work in the administration of the City's financial program. Prepares Annual Financial Statement; analyzes and reports financial activities; prepares and distributes completed monthly, quarterly, and year-end reconciliations; researches and reviews financial data to assist other departments in preparing special reports and projects. Provides direction and instruction to other employees in the preparation of payroll, accounts payable, and accounts receivable activities.

Minimum Qualifications

Knowledge of:

  • Accounting and auditing theory, principles, and practices.
  • Grant applications and administration.
  • Accounting standards for a governmental entity.
  • Regulations applying to the maintenance of financial records.
  • Principles of supervision, training, motivation, and counseling.
  • Correct English usage, spelling, grammar, and punctuation.
  • Applicable software and data processing applications.
  • Cost analysis, and principles and practices of contract management.

Ability to:

  • Learn City policies and procedures.
  • Analyze and interpret accounting and financial information and requirements.
  • Supervise the preparation and maintenance of complex accounting records.
  • Prepare financial reports, statements, and working papers.
  • Prepare complex reports, business correspondence, and procedures.
  • Apply mathematical concepts such as statistical inference, fractions, percentages, ratios, etc.
  • Explain complex financial and accounting information to employees and officials lacking technical knowledge.
  • Direct assigned personnel and work activities.
  • Communicate effectively in verbal and written form.
  • Maintain confidentiality.
  • Use independent judgement and initiative in developing solutions to problems.
  • Interact professionally with various levels of employees, officials, and customers.

Please Note:

The City of Woodinville does not participate in Social Security, which means employees do not contribute to or earn Social Security credit while employed with the City.  Further, the Social Security Administration applies a formula containing an offset to take into account employment with a nonparticipating employer.  However, as a City of Woodinville employee, you may be eligible to participate in the Municipal Employee Benefit Trust (MEBT) plan; you are eligible to participate as soon as you are hired into an MEBT-eligible position.  MEBT is a define-contribution plan.

There is also mandatory participation in the State of Washington Public Employees Retirement System (PERS) which is a traditional, define-benefit pension plan – when you meet plan requirements and retire, you are guaranteed a certain monthly income for the rest of your life.

This position is PERS and MEBT eligible.
