Summary

The Mercer Island Police Department is currently accepting applications for Lateral/Experienced Police Officers.

The Mercer Island Police Department employs 31 commissioned officers and 5 support staff to serve in variety of different capacities including:

  • Patrol
  • Marine Patrol
  • Criminal Investigations
  • Dive Team
  • Bicycle Patrol
  • Crime Prevention
  • Emergency Management
  • School Resource Officer
  • Civil Disturbance Unit
  • Tactical Response Unit
  • Collision Investigation
  • Multiple Instructor Opportunities

SELECTION PROCESS FOR LATERAL AND EXPERIENCED CANDIDATES:
  • Lateral Candidates:  must have been a full-time, fully commissioned and certified law enforcement officer with at least 24 of the last 36 months in that position.
  • Experienced Candidates:  must have been a full-time, fully commissioned and certified law enforcement officer with less than 24 of the last 36 months in that position.

PAY AND BENEFITS

   Salary:

  • $5,843 - $7,810 per month starting salary (2019 Rates)
  • Longevity Pay starting at 5 years
  • Education Incentive
  • Night Shift Premium

   Paid Time Off:

  • Vacation:  96 – 192 hours per year depending on longevity
  • Holiday:  120 hours per year
  • Patrol earns 12 hours of Kelly each month


   Medical/Dental/Vision:  City pays full premium of medical, dental and vision with additional VEBA contributions made 2 times each year.

   Retirement:  Retirement system is Law Enforcement Officers and Firefighters Plan II system.

   Uniforms and Equipment:  All uniform and equipment pieces provided by the department.
