Head Swim Team Coaches Salary: $17.50 - $20.90 per hour
Administers the day to day aspects of the Swim/Dive Team program and provides effective/skillful supervision and leadership to the assistant coaches.

Assistant Swim Team Coaches Salary: $15.50- $18.51 per hour
Duties include customer service, planning and directing daily practice, organization of season competition and assistance with administrative duties as assigned.

Swim Instructors (Water Safety Inst. Certified) Salary: $14.00- $16.27 per hour 
Water Safety Instructors provide instruction to students registered in the summer community Learn to Swim Program.


Lifeguards Salary: $14.50- $17.31 per hour
Lifeguards provide effective knowledge and skillful lifeguarding at City public beaches and/or pool.

Swim Instructors Salary: $13.50- $16.12 per hour
Swim Instructors provide swim instruction to lower level students in the summer community Learn to Swim Program.

Minimum Qualifications
  • Must possess current First Aid, CPR and AED certifications before June 1, 2020.
  • Must be able to pass the aquatics swim test and perform the skills similar to American Red Cross certification
  • Must successfully complete a thorough background check as required by the Child/Adult Abuse Information Act

Additional Minimum Qualifications per position:

Head Swim Team Coaches:  Two seasons of coaching and/or 3+ seasons swim team experience.  Must be 18 years of age or older.

Assistant Swim Team Coaches: Minimum two seasons of swim team experience and minimum 16 years of age.

Water Safety Instructors (WSI): A current ARC Waster Safety Instructor certification is required on or before the first day of employment. Must be 16 years of age.

Lifeguards: A current American Red Cross Lifeguarding certification is required on or before the first day of employment. Must be 15 years of age.


Swim Instructors: Successful completion of the Peter Kirk Learn to Swim Instructor Training. Minimum 16 years of age.

Working Conditions & Physical Activities

Work is performed outdoors in varying weather conditions during the summer months at city-owned pool and beaches. Employee works a flexible schedule which may include early mornings, evening hours and weekends. On occasion, must be able to provide own transportation. Hearing and speaking to exchange information, dexterity of hands and fingers to operate standard office machines and pool maintenance equipment.  Seeing to read and analyze chemical tests, sitting or standing for extended periods of time, kneeling or crouching and bending at the waist to conduct tests, lift patrons and/or facility materials of 50 lbs. (With assistance if weight is greater)
