Summary

In response to the COVID-19 pandemic, the Beach Ambassador position is being implemented to engage and educate park users about health directives, provide city issued lifejackets to patrons, perform beach cleanup walks, City and Department policies, and available services and resources. The Beach Ambassador position gives the Parks and Community Services Department an opportunity to promote community safety and bridge communication between park users, City Leadership, and our Department.

 

As representatives of the Parks and Community Services Department, Beach Ambassadors will be on site to provide loaner personal floatation devices upon request to beach goers.  In addition, Beach Ambassadors will exemplify parks rules and regulations and “set an example” for park visitors and guests. Beach Ambassadors will complete beach walks, removing trash and/debris from the water and promote a positive relationship between the department and park users by providing education, assistance, and information.  Beach Ambassadors educate the public about City and departmental regulations as appropriate and informs law enforcement of disturbances as needed.  Beach Ambassadors are not enforcers of policy and guidelines, but rather friendly staff creating a visible presence in the parks. Beach Ambassadors will keep the public informed of current park regulations and program changes by:

  • Life Jacket Supply and Fitting
  • Perform beach walks, remove debris and trash and glass from the water
  • Onsite community engagement in our parks
  • Handing out flyers and other related materials
  • Answering questions
  • Encouraging social-distancing guidelines
  • Reporting any possible hazards to the appropriate person
  • Daily reporting on park usage and needs
  • Promoting a calm and enjoyable park experience for park users
    Essential Functions

    RESPONSIBILITIES:

    • Provide Life Jackets and assist with proper fitting upon request.
    • Ensure a safe environment for all park users by providing education about social distancing and available resources to the community. 
    • Provide information on current Parks and Community Services policies and procedures and park amenity status. 
    • Distribute flyers to promote the current policies, status of park amenities, and available programs and services. 
    • Encourage park users to behave in a manner consistent with park rules and Department of Health public safety guidelines.
    • Complete daily status report, write incident reports if needed, and provide recommendations and feedback related to park use. 
    • If necessary due to negative behavior, Beach Ambassadors may contact appropriate staff, law enforcement or other emergency personnel as appropriate.
    • Provide excellent customer service.
    • Provide, first aid and CPR when necessary.
    • Attends mandatory training.
    • Performs related duties as assigned.
    • Abides by and enforces the policies and procedures of the Aquatic Department, Parks and Community Services Department and the City of Kirkland as set forth in the Aquatics Policy and Procedures Manual.

    2. Ability to follow and give instructions.
    3. Ability to remain flexible to changes in situation and schedules.

    MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

    1. Minimum 18 years of age
    2. Must complete a thorough background check as required by the Child/Adult Abuse Information Act.
