Mail Services Clerk - City of Kirkland ( Job # 20-0082)

Summary

Provide mail processing for all City departments located at City Hall and offsite City locations. Retrieve, sort and distribute incoming mail and process outgoing mail; assist departments in preparing bulk mailings. Provide courier services as assigned by supervisor. Maintain and balance records of postage accounts, order mailroom supplies and prepare statistical reports. Prepare and manage mail center budget.


Hours of Work

Hours of work, 8:00a.m. - 5:00p.m., Monday - Friday; occasional extended hours may be required. This position provides medical, dental and vision benefits.

Minimum Qualifications

High School Diploma or GED. Must possess and maintain a valid Washington State Drivers License. Ability to read and interpret addresses sufficiently to accurately sort and distribute materials. Must be reliable and possess excellent time management skills, maintaining regular, predictable attendance. Must be able to work independently and maintain a high degree of confidentiality of materials handled. Basic computer and accounting skills required. Prior experience with mail handling preferred.

Preferred Qualifications

Government, mail distribution or shipping experience preferred.

Working Conditions & Physical Activities

Work will be performed in office setting and driving in a small van or passenger vehicle.  Must be able to work standing for long periods of time and move items weighing up to 60 pounds on a daily basis. Must be able to see, read, bend, sit, stand, walk, kneel, climb stairs, and have and use manual dexterity. Some work is performed sitting and working at a computer terminal.

Union Affiliation

As a condition of employment, must become a member of the American Federation of State, County, and Municipal Employees Union (AFSCME) within 30 days of employment or meet alternate regulations as set forth in the Agreement between the Union and the City.
