Summary

This position will provide support to the Utilities Conservation & Outreach Group, which includes marking storm drains City-wide, assisting at community events and outreach programs, tracking data collection, inputting data into and maintaining databases, assisting in volunteer events, such as the Waterwise Garden, assisting in the labeling of recycling containers throughout the City, assisting in the development of an electronic content management system to track and organize electronic assets for the group, researching and developing social media options that might be used for community engagement, and assisting with the promotion of pollution prevention measures to the Bellevue business community and residents. Communications and Environmental Outreach Group materials, programs, and events include topics such as surface water pollution prevention, water conservation, natural yard care, and waste prevention and recycling.



Primary Responsibilities

  • Maintain and update public storm drain marker program.
  • Assisting at community events and outreach programs, including volunteer events.
  • Assist with the Waterwise Garden work parties.
  • Help with updating inventory computer records.
  • Assist in labeling of recycling containers throughout the City. 
  • Support efforts to develop social media options to engage the Bellevue community.
  • Assist in promotion of pollution prevention, water conservation, natural yard care, and waste prevention and recycling to Bellevue business community and residents.

 

Qualifications

List required and desired qualifications/work experience. Be specific, and include as many bullet points as needed.

  • Working knowledge of current environmental issues/efforts.
  • Currently enrolled in a 4-year accredited college, majoring in a subject relevant to the environment and/or conservation, and not scheduled to graduate or leave school within the next 10 months.
  • Washington Driver’s license with good driving record.
  • Able to work independently as well as with other interns, project managers, and Bellevue staff.
  • Must be able to work flexible hours due to evening or weekend outreach events.
  • Internship starts as soon as possible through beginning of fall semester of the next school year.

  • The noise level in the work environment is usually moderately quiet; however, outdoor work is required in areas that may have significant vehicle traffic noise.

 

Definition of a Student Intern

  • Must be enrolled in a bona fide education program. Full time employees taking evening classes, those enrolled in one course, or those going to school periodically are not considered student interns.
  • During the school year must be scheduled to work 20 hours or fewer per week.
  • During special situations (i.e. specific internship programs through school) or during school breaks, can be scheduled to work more than 20 hours, up to full time, if appropriate.
  • Must be terminated as a student intern when no longer associated with an education program.
  • At-will for the duration of the student intern status.
