Summary

The salary for this position is currently under review.

Under the direction of the Accounting Services Manager, this position is responsible for performing regular and recurring accounting functions, including: conducting the daily and monthly cash reconciliations and balance sheet reconciliations; researching and resolving discrepencies and errors; processing refund requests and deposit returns; and ensuring employee expense claims are allocated correctly.  Other duties include: assisting senior staff within the division with special projects; providing technical accounting and financial assistance to other departments; preparing Government fund level financial statements in accordance with governmental GAAP, GASB and the Washington State Auditor’s Office requirements; preparing and delivering professional level written and oral reports; and other duties as assigned.

 


Qualifications:

Knowledge of:  Generally accepted accounting principles; financial statements, journal entries, and reconciliations; ERP Systems; project accounting; municipal budget procedures and local government operations is preferred.

Skill in:  Data processing and analysis; the use of various software programs MS Office (Word, Excel, Access, and Outlook) and Enterprise Accounting/ERP systems; designing complex spreadsheets; analyzing financial requirements in contracts; performing excellent customer service; verbal and written communication.

Ability to:  Accurately maintain financial records; research and understand applicable state and federal regulations; perform mathematical calculations; communicate effectively with all levels of city staff; present to city staff, other government agencies, the Mayor and general public; work independently and take initiative.

Education and Experience:

Bachelor's degree in Accounting or related field and at least six (6) months accounting experience required. Equivalent combinations of education, experience and training that provides the required knowledge, skills and abilities may be considered. Municipal experience is preferred.

Licenses/Other Requirements:

Valid Washington State driver’s license required by date of hire and a driving record that meets City standards.  Fulfillment of bargaining unit agreement membership is required within 30 days of hire.

Working Conditions:

Work is primarily performed in an office environment. Attendance at evening meetings may be required.
