Recreation Leader III - Adaptive Recreation Leader - City of Redmond ( Job # 13-0049)

Under the direction of the Adaptive Recreation Program Lead, Recreation Leaders work directly with participants with developmental disabilities of all ages in a recreation setting. Classes are designed specifically for people with disabilities, as well as inclusive settings in general recreation classes. Classes vary from sports, fitness, arts, cooking, day and afterschool programs This position will plan and implement activities in classes as well as provide accommodations for participants with disabilities. This position may be responsible for driving participants in City vans to various events.
Hours and Duration:
This is a supplemental, year round, part-time position with no benefits. This position will work approximately 4-20 hours per week. Hours vary based on class offerings and enrollment. Hours are available for days, afternoons, and evenings as well as some weekends. Opportunities for additional hours may be available as needed for summer camps and inclusion. This position is limited to working 1040 hours per calendar year.
Must be enthusiastic, energetic, compassionate, and passionate about working with people with disabilities, as well as have an interest in community recreation. Ability to develop and lead programming for a diverse range of abilities/challenges. Good oral and written communication skills with staff, participants, and general public. Computer and Microsoft Office proficient.
Education and Experience:
A combination of education and experience equivalent to: High School Diploma and four or more years experience working in a Recreation, Education or related field. Previous experience working in inclusive recreation or education settings and programs specifically designed for people with disabilities is preferred.
Licenses and Requirements:
Must be a minimum of 21 years of age. Valid Washington State driver's license by date of hire and a driving record that meets City standards. Must have or obtain valid First Aid and CPR certificates by date of hire. Must pass a background check before hire.
Indoor and outdoor recreational environment subject to noise, distractions, seasonal heat, adverse weather conditions periodic interruptions, and potentially stressful situations; moderate lifting up to 50 pounds. This position will not be responsible for providing personal services such as feeding, dressing, and toileting.
