Assistant Preschool Teacher (Recreation Leader III) - City of Redmond ( Job # 13-0051)

Under the supervision of the Recreation Program Coordinator, this position will work with the Lead Preschool Teacher to plan, prepare and implement a developmentally appropriate, theme based preschool curriculum for children ages 3 - 5. Other responsibilities include: working closely with children's parents on a daily basis; effectively resolving classroom issues; and assisting with other preschool functions as needed.
Hours and Duration:
This is a supplemental, part-time position with no benefits. This position will work approximately 10.5 hours per week, during the school year (early August to mid June). Hours will be Mon, Wed, Fri, 8:30 am - 12:00 pm or Mon, Wed, Fri, 9:00 am - 12:00 pm, with flexibility to adjust to Department workload. May include occasional work on weekends and evenings as needed. This position is limited to working 1040 hours per calendar year.
Knowledge of: Preschool curriculum and recreation program development and implementation; stages of childhood development; and classroom management tools and techniques.
Education and Experience:
Skill in: Teaching and directing activities of children; exhibiting patience; conflict resolution techniques; organizational skill; providing excellent customer service; and effective communication, both verbally and in writing.
Ability to: Work in a team setting; work with farm animals; establish and maintain effective working relationships with City staff and the public; follow and enforce policies and guidelines of the Department and City; and safely drive a 14 passenger van and possibly operate a small tractor.
Requires High School Diploma and at least two years of related work experience working with children. Previous work experience with 3-5 year old children is required. Teaching experience and college-level coursework in Early Childhood Education is preferred.
Licenses and Requirements:
Must have a valid Washington State driver’s license by date of hire, and a driving record that meets City standards. First Aid and CPR certification required by date of hire.
Must be able to work in a classroom setting, outside in varied weather conditions, with farm animals, and on a flexible schedule. Must be able to lift 40 pounds on a regular basis, and safely drive City vehicles, including 14 passenger vans and a small tractor for the preschool program.
