Summary

This position performs and or leads a variety of routine and complex technical engineering - related activities for Transportation projects and programs. Establishes, manages, and maintains a Quality Assurance and Acceptance Inspection and Documentation Program that meets Federal, State and Local Codes and Standards. Standard work hours will be from 7:00am to 3:30pm, Monday thru Friday (work hours may change to accommodate work activity).


Responsibilities
  • Establishes and manages a Quality Assurance and Acceptance Inspection Program that complies with Federal and State materials guidelines for all Transportation construction projects.
  • Attend preconstruction meetings to explain materials submittal and documentation requirements.
  • Attend weekly project meetings for assigned projects and report on status of materials submittals and contractor Requests for Information (RFI’s).
  • Provide assistance and field support to construction inspection staff for testing and acceptance of contractor’s materials during construction.
  • Work closely with other departments, engineers, and contractors to ensure system integrity.
  • Maintain project Quality Assurance and Acceptance documentation on Microsoft SharePoint system.

 

Education

  • Graduation from an accredited two-year college or university with a degree in engineering sciences or related field.

 

Qualifications

  • Five or more years road transportation, construction, or equivalent construction experience, and two years college level course work or an equivalent combination of experience and school.
  • Knowledge of construction methods, materials, and contractor practices in the following areas: structural walls, reinforced concrete, asphalt, storm, sewer, water, earthwork, concrete flatwork, landscaping, irrigation, erosion control, construction scheduling and work sequencing, signalization, illumination, channelization.
  • Current, valid Washington State Driver’s License, and good driving record, and the ability to maintain a good driving record in accordance with City standards.
  • Knowledge of field data collection techniques, basic principles and practices of transportation project design, software programs, and WSDOT LAG Manual Project Documentation procedures.
  • Knowledge of erosion control and environmental procedures and practices, and the ability to obtain a certification with the designation of Certified Erosion and Sedimentation Control Lead (CESCL).
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to make and defend unpopular decisions and to know when to request assistance.
  • Analytical and detail oriented skills.
  • Problem-solving and conflict resolution skills.
  • Ability to work in adverse weather conditions and confined areas.
  • Ability to work overtime with minimal advance notice.
  • Knowledge and ability to resolve construction conflicts in the field.
  • Ability to work with other City staff, general contractors, engineers, and the general public.
  • Experience and knowledge of City of Bellevue Construction Documentation is preferred.
