Day Camp Leaders (Supp. Recreation Leader I/II) - City of Redmond ( Job # 14-0011)

These positions are open until filled with preference given to applications received by March 10, 2014.

These positions work with children in a day camp setting.  Full and part-time, supplemental positions are available, and range from 5 to 11 week assignments. 

**Please note: All positions are dependent on programs meeting minimum enrollment.  If programs are canceled, staff will not be scheduled to work.**




Summer programs run June 23 - August 29, 2014.  Exact weeks will vary based on camp assignments.  There will be mandatory training June 16-20, 2014.

Qualifications & Experience:

Must be enthusiastic, energetic and passionate about working with children, as well as have an interest in community recreation and/or education programs. Previous experience planning and leading recreation activities for children ages 3 -15 preferred, and possess specific skills in one or more of the following: arts and crafts, educational activities, sports, organized games, songs, and/or storytelling.  Some positions may supervise volunteers. Lead, assistant and/or co-leader status may be established based on experience.

Must have or obtain current First Aid and CPR certification by camp start date.

Farrel-McWhirter Park Camps:

4 positions available

These positions will work an 8 week assignment of 35 to 40 hours a week, Monday - Friday, 8:00 a.m. - 4:00 p.m. Two positions will be working with children 3-5 years of age and two positions will be working with children 5-8 years of age. Camp programs will have rotating themes, related arts/crafts activities and outdoor games. Includes working with farm animals and driving a tractor.

Minimum of 18 years of age by date of hire.

Boredom Buster Camps:

9 positions available

These positions will work a 10 week assignment of 35 - 40 hours per week, Monday - Friday.  Hours will be scheduled in 8 hour shifts from 7:30 a.m. – 6:15 p.m. Positions work with school age children, 5-11 years old and also provide coverage for the before and after care program.  Boredom Buster Camps have weekly themes, related arts/crafts activities, outdoor games and weekly field trips.  Includes swimming in Lake Sammamish and driving a 15-passenger van.

You must be over 18 years of age, have a current driver’s license and a driving record that meets City standards in order to be eligible for these positions.

After Hours Summer Break Camp:

Monday - Friday, 8:30 am - 4:30 pm, 6 week assignment. These positions will work 40 hours per week, and work with teens ages 11-14.  Lead activities with weekly themes, related arts/crafts, outdoor games, and field trips.  You must be 21 my 3ars of age, have a current driver's license and an insurable driving record for these positions.

Mini-Sports Camps:

2 positions available

These positions will work a 3 week assignment of 12-14 hours per week, Monday - Thursday, 9:00 a.m. - 12:00 p.m.  These positions will manage a small group of 4-6 year olds and teach the basic principles of soccer, basketball and T-ball.

Must be a minimum of 16 years of age by date of hire. 

Safety Town Camps:

2 positions available

These positions will work a 5 week assignment of 12-14 hours per week, Monday - Friday, 10:00 a.m. - 12:00 p.m. These positions will work with children 4-6 years old on safety related activites, including special guests and a day at the City Hall Campus and the Redmond Police Department.

Must be a minimum of 18 years of age by date of hire.

Working Conditions:

Indoor and outdoor recreational environment subject to noise, distractions, seasonal heat, adverse weather conditions and periodic interruptions; moderate lifting up to 50 pounds.

The City of Redmond will be creating an eligibility list from this pool of applicants for future openings.
