Summary

Obtains information about and exposure to city management, government communications and public outreach by assisting with the communications functions of the City Manager’s Office.  Under the direction of the Communications Program Manager:

  • Assist in story research, script writing, and on-camera standup for city-produced video productions
  • Assist in the research and development of policies related to city government
  • Assist with the implementation of communications related programs, projects, and events
  • Assist with the preparation of communications materials about the City of Kirkland based upon City goals and Department priorities, including editorials and speeches
  • Assist with preparation and edit of city news releases, city newsletter articles, brochures, guides, and other city-produced publications
  • Assist in posting city information on city websites and city-endorsed social media sites
  • Perform other functions as needed

Hours of Work

To be mutually agreed upon at time of job offer.     Work days/hours are flexible, depending upon student class schedule.   Up to 20 hours/week available.

Minimum Qualifications

Current enrollment in a community college, undergraduate, or graduate program focused on public administration, communications, broadcasting, journalism, public relations or marketing or related field of study. 

Preferred Qualifications

Junior or senior university standing or graduate student preferred.

Working Conditions & Physical Activities

Duties are typically performed in office environment.   Requires standing or sitting for long periods of time, up to two hours.   Work involves computer use and occasional lifting of objects up to 50 pounds.   Some video production duties performed in a television production environment and on-site outdoors.
