Forest Management Maintenance Aide (1040) - City of Bellevue ( Job # 14-0017)

The Forest Maintenance Aide will work as a member of the Natural Resource Division’s Forest Management Program. The position will work closely with a Skilled Worker and will report to the Urban Forester. Most of the work will occur in the field at forest restoration sites. The following is a general task list of duties:
Invasive weed control with line trimmer, hand tools, herbicide, etc.
Tree watering by hand and sprinkler.
Litter removal from open spaces and native growth protection areas.
Landscape maintenance of forest frontages.
Must be at least 18 years of age.
Required to possess a valid Washington state driver’s license by date of hire. Must have and maintain a good driving record according to City standards. Current original drivers abstract required at time of interview.
Must be comfortable working outside in all weather conditions.
Completion of high school diploma or GED is required.
Completion of at least one year of college coursework in forestry or related natural resource field is preferred.
Work experience of at least one year in forestry, natural resources, or landscape maintenance is preferred.
Good written and oral communication skills desirable.
The rate of pay will range from $13.75 – $18.98, depending on experience. The City will provide PPE, personal protective equipment, as needed with the exception of work boots and rain gear. The position is full-time, seasonal and runs approximately from mid-March to late September, not to exceed 9 months. Hours are Monday – Friday, 7:00am – 3:30pm.
Definition of a 1040
There is no specific end date for employees in this status. Therefore, working in this status can be on going for as long as required by business necessity. However, employees in this status cannot be paid more than 1,040 hours per calendar year, from January 1 to December 31 (hours worked from Dec 16 - Dec 15).
On-Going Work of the City - Hired to work a maximum of 20 hours or fewer per week on an on-going basis, as long as 1,040 paid hours within a 12-month period of time are not exceeded.
On-Call – Hired to work on a substitute or on-call basis with no guaranteed minimum hours of work, as long as 1,040 hours paid within a 12-month period of time are not exceeded.
Combination Jobs - Can be hired to fill a combination of jobs as long as 20 hours per week or 1,040 hours paid within a 12-month period of time are not exceeded.
Periods of Full Time - Can be assigned to work more than 20 hours per week up to full time on a temporary basis without transforming the assignment to a benefited position, as long 1,040 hours paid within a 12-month period of time are not exceeded.
If the employee exceeds 1,040 hours paid within a 12-month period of time in any capacity described above, the employee must be off payroll until hours paid are in January of the new year.
Must be hired through the Informal Selection Process
At-will for the duration of the 1040 part time status
