Beach Front Manager (Supplemental Recreation Leader IV) - City of Redmond ( Job # 14-0024)

Under the supervision of the Outdoor Program Administrator, the Beach Front Manager works in a team setting to manage the summer aquatics program at Idlywood Park. 

Duties include:

  • Coordinating the set-up of beach equipment and supplies at Idylwood Park prior to the season
  • Daily scheduling and supervision of lifeguard staff and substitutes
  • Lifeguarding on a daily basis
  • Coordinating and leading weekly staff meetings
  • Coordinating all training, testing, and weekly in-services
  • Providing public education on water safety to park visitors
  • The accountability of the lifeguard staff and all Idylwood Beach related programs and activities
  • Enforce park ordinances and swimming rules
  • Supervise public activities and ensure patron safety
  • Conduct basic beach front maintenance duties
  • Maintain accurate records
  • Other duties as assigned

Hours and Duration:

Pre-Season Hours: April – Mid-June, 5 to 10 hours per week to assist until beachfront is set up; hours may vary depending on program needs. Season Hours: June 18 – September 1, 2014, 35 - 40 hours per week; hours may vary depending on weather conditions and beach attendance.


Ability to:  Work in a team setting, supervise staff, develop work schedules, perform lifeguarding duties in a beach front environment, maintain accurate records, conduct basic beach front maintenance duties, enforce regulations and policies to the visiting public. Must enjoy working with people as this is a high public contact position.

Licenses and Requirements:

Minimum of 21 years of age by June 1, 2014 and previous guarding experience at a pool or beach park is required. Open water experience and supervisory experience in an aquatics program is desirable.  

Current certification in: American Red Cross Lifeguard Training and First Aid and American Red Cross CPR/AED for the Professional Rescuer. Lifeguard Training Instructor (LGI), Water Safety Instructor (WSI), and the Northwest Lifeguard Test or equivalent is desirable.

Applicants will be required to attend skills and conditioning training prior to season. Ability to work complete season and attend all testing and training sessions as scheduled.

Must have a valid Washington State Driver's License, and a driving record that meets City standards.
