The City of Bellevue has a diverse Records program which includes focusing on responding to public records requests, managing building permit files in paper and electronic format, enterprise content management (ECM), retention schedule development, coordinating with the Washington State Archives and Digital Archives, and staff training. The intern will have the opportunity to be exposed to all of these areas; assist in special projects and participate in special committees to gain a well-rounded understanding of a local government records program.

Primary Responsibilities

  • Ability to help create a needs assessment for the central repository for historically significant digital photographs.
  •  Assessment of legacy enterprise content management (ECM) content and working with staff to create processes for migration into our SharePoint records center environment.
  •  Coordination with the Washington State Digital Archives for the review and transfer of archival records from our elected officials and executive team.
  •  Data validation and cleanup in our physical records database.
  • Other duties as assigned.


  • Enrolled in a post-graduate records and information management related program.
  •  Basic understanding of records management and records life cycle principles.
  • Confident in basic computer skills and willingness to learn Microsoft SharePoint and other technology as required.
  •  Ability to work in a team environment or independently.
  •  Ability to communicate in a clear and concise manner, both orally and in writing.
  • Ability to perform research, analyze situations and propose solutions.

Definition of a Student Intern

  • Must be enrolled in a bona fide education program. Full time employees taking evening classes, those enrolled in one course, or those going to school periodically are not considered student interns.
  • During the school year must be scheduled to work 20 hours or fewer per week.
  • During special situations (i.e. specific internship programs through school) or during school breaks, can be scheduled to work more than 20 hours, up to full time, if appropriate.
  • Must be terminated as a student intern when no longer associated with an education program.
  • At-will for the duration of the student intern status.
