Located on the shores of Lake Washington, just 20 minutes away from downtown Seattle and SeaTac Airport, Bellevue is the fifth largest city in Washington, with a population of more than 126,000. It was recently voted #4 of America’s best small cities to live by Money magazine. The city has enjoyed and welcomed growth in the past several decades yet much of Bellevue retains a small-town feel, with thriving, woodsy neighborhoods and a vast network of green spaces, miles and miles of nature trails, public parks and swim beaches. Bellevue is also the high-tech and retail center of King County's Eastside, with more than 140,000 jobs and a skyline of gleaming high-rises.
The Utilities Department provides four essential services: drinking water, wastewater, storm and surface water, and solid waste. The department is a dynamic, fast-paced organization consisting of the Director’s Office and three divisions (Engineering, Operations & Maintenance, and Resource Management & Customer Service). The department has an annual operating budget of $112 million, a 6-year Capital Program of $145 million, and 180 employees. The Deputy Director reports to and assists the Director in leading the department in all areas, and acts as Utilities Director in the Director's absence. The Deputy Director provides leadership and direction for the Operations & Maintenance and Engineering divisions.
Undergraduate degree in civil engineering, public administration or related field; master's degree or MPA preferred. 8 years of progressively responsible related experience in a management capacity within utilities or public works; 10+ years preferred.
