Traffic Operations Intern - City of Redmond ( Job # 14-0033)
Minimum Salary: $11.35 per hour
Maximum Salary: $19.75 per hour

Traffic Operations Safety and Engineering Division Intern works with engineering staff members to survey streetlight blockage and electrical service transformers and enter information into GIS database along with collision and traffic data. Assist field technicians in traffic signal preventative maintenance. Tasks include field work, updating and maintaining files, processing data and other duties as assigned.
Hours and Duration:
Summer 2014, Monday thru Friday, 40 hours/week 7:30 am – 4:00 pm. Position is limited to 1040 hours per calendar year.
Knowledge of: General engineering, traffic safety, measuring instruments and computers. ArcMap or other GIS software.
Skill in: Maintaining records and preparing written reports; computer software, including Outlook, Word, Excel or Access and database management.
Ability to: Understand plans, schematics, diagrams and charts; work independently and cooperatively with others; communicate clearly, both verbally and in writing; and establish and maintain effective working relationships with coworkers.
Education and Experience:
Must be currently working towards a degree or certification in engineering, electronics, or a closely related field.
Licenses and Requirements:
A valid Washington State driver's license is required by date of hire and a driving record that meets the City’s driving standards. Will need to obtain a Washington State Flagger card within one month of hire (City will assist).
Work is performed in an office and outdoor environment. Field conditions may include working in inclement weather. Some physical hazards exist in exposure to traffic, heavy equipment, noise and obstacles in the Right of Way. Lifting in excess of 50 pounds may be required.
