Lead Maintenance Technician - Facilities - City of Redmond ( Job # 14-0036)

Under the direction of the Facilities Operations Supervisor, this position is responsible for the following:

  • Provide oversight and lead the work of regular and supplemental employees and provide daily work direction; plan, schedule, assign and review work; train and provide technical assistance to staff; facilitate participation of team members in work activities.
  • Make recommendations for personnel actions such as hiring and performance evaluations.
  • Plan, develop, coordinate and execute preventative maintenance programs for all vital systems and equipment in buildings.
  • Provide customer service support to City operations.
  • Effectively resolve customer complaints and respond to inquiries.
  • Process completed service requests, part purchases, vendor invoices, project proposals; maintain information in asset management program.
  • Provide journeyman knowledge to staff on various maintenance, repair and renovation techniques for building interiors, exteriors and mechanical components.
  • Provide and perform journey level maintenance and repairs on multiple building components and systems.
  • Schedule, assign and oversee maintenance, repairs and installation work including plumbing, electrical, heating and air conditioning, pneumatic controls, framing, concrete work, as well as sheetrock patching and painting on interior and exterior surfaces, in compliance with applicable codes.
  • Inspect, drain and clean water boilers/water treatment chemicals.
  • Coordinate remodeling, renovations and major repairs of facilities.
  • Assist supervisor with developing the divisional budget and projected capital improvement offers.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Education and Experience:

Any combination of education and experience equivalent to High School diploma and (5) years progressively responsible building maintenance experience in large commercial facilities or other closely related work experience that provides the knowledge, skills and abilities needed to perform this job.

Licenses and Requirements:

Valid Washington State Driver’s License is required by date of hire, and a driving record that meets City standards. Ability to obtain a First Aid/CPR certification within one (1) year of hire.  This position is subject to the drug and alcohol testing requirements of the Federal Highway Administration.  

Working Conditions:

Respond to general system emergencies as a member of the facilities staff.  Work is performed in an office setting and in the field. Field work is performed outside and inside, sometimes in inclement weather and in confined spaces. Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds. 

Selection Process:

The selection process will include a written test and interview.  Selected candidates will be notified via email of the test date.

Candidates who are selected to interview will be required to complete a Background Authorization Form.

Fulfillment of bargaining unit membership is required within 30 days of hire.
