The City of Redmond is recruiting a Plumbing/Mechanical Inspector to meet current and future work load requirements for upcoming development projects. Inspectors are responsible for a broad range of advanced-level inspections related to the enforcement of building codes and development regulations. Inspection assignments will include new construction and alterations to existing structures throughout the City. Perform other duties as assigned.
Skill in: communicating with people of diverse occupations in stressful circumstances; use of personal computer, software (MS Word, Outlook) and related equipment; efficiently managing workload and keeping detailed records. Use of field inspection software desired.
Ability to: take direction and work as a team member; interpret plans, complex drawings, calculations and specifications to compare with construction in progress; establish and maintain effective working relationships with contractors, sub-contractors and other City staff.
Education and Experience:
High school diploma or GED and minimum five (5) years of construction experience as a license journeyman plumber with Washington State Labor and Industries or HVAC mechanical. Prefer two (2) years of municipal inspection experience and current residential and/or commercial ICC plumbing or mechanical certification(s). If not already certified, will be required to obtain ICC certification within six months of hiring.
Licenses and Requirements:
Valid Washington State driver's license by date of hire, and a driving record that meets City standards. Fulfillment of bargaining unit agreement membership is required within 30 days of hire.
Work is performed at building sites and in the office. Exposure to a variety of weather conditions may occur while conducting field inspections. May be exposed to physical hazard from obstacles, heights and climbing steps and ladders on construction sites. Must be able to walk over uneven ground at construction sites and go in and out of crawl spaces.
Fulfillment of bargaining unit membership is required within 30 days of hire.
