Construction & Maintenance Project Supervisor - City of DuPont ( Job # 17-0005)

General Purpose:

This position is a 3 to 5 year depending upon completion of the project. This position supervises journey-level workers performing skilled work in at least two skilled trades.  These workers fabricate a variety of components using materials such as, wood, metal or concrete and/or construct, remodel, repair, and maintain buildings, facilities, utilities, machinery, and equipment.  Incumbents supervise construction, repair and production activities and work crews.

Supervises up to 5 project employees

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

Schedules, directs, coordinates and supervises a maintenance crew in the various phases of new construction and facility maintenance; 

Supervises a crew engaged in construction and repair of street trees, tree root removal, concrete and asphalt sidewalks, concrete curbs and ramps, planting strips, grass turf, and landscape irrigation; 

Monitors the impact of street tree and sidewalk repair to adjacent portable water distribution systems, stormwater systems and street lighting;  

Operates, maintains and supervises maintenance of construction tools and equipment;  

Operates and maintains Class A equipment;   

Acts as on-site project coordinator; heads, directs, and trains work crews in construction and maintenance projects;  

Prepares reports; schedules maintenance; assists in developing projects including determining materials, equipment, and manpower needs;  

Schedules the movement and use of equipment to and from project locations; transports materials and equipment to project locations;  

Obtains bids and/or quotes and purchases materials;  

Performs other related work as required;

Minimum Qualifications, Education and Experience:

Graduation from high school or GED equivalent.


Two years of experience and completion of recognized apprenticeship in at least two skilled trades or four years of applicable work experience or vocational training.


Two years of experience as a Construction and Maintenance Project Supervisor or two years of experience supervising journey level workers in a construction or maintenance project.


 Valid Flagger and CPR/First Aid certificate or ability to obtain certification within six months from hire date. 

Any combination of related education and experience or training that in the opinion of the city would provide the level of knowledge and abilities required.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

Knowledge of:  methods, materials, tools, and equipment used in building and maintenance work; occupational hazards and safety precautions of building trades; supervisory methods.   

Ability to:  use hand and power tools; work from blueprint and sketches; estimate materials and costs; keep time and material records; plan and supervise work of others. 

Special Requirements:

A valid Washington State Driver’s License. 

Tools and Equipment Used:

Motorized vehicles and equipment including dump truck, pickup truck, utility truck, excavator, tamper, plate compactor, saws, pumps and vacuum systems, compressors, sanders, generators, grinders, concrete mixer, common hand and power tools, shovels, wrenches, detection devices, mobile radio and a phone.  Office equipment such as computers, printers, telephone, copier, etc.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee regularly works in outside weather conditions. The noise level in the work environment is usually loud.
