Summary

As one of two Communications Supervisors in the Department, supervises, schedules, coordinates and oversees the daily operation of the Police Communications Center; directs dispatching of police personnel and equipment; performs administrative and technical duties; and provides technical support to division administrative staff. Makes recommendation on the hiring, retention, pay and training of employees assigned to the Communication Center.  In addition to supervisory responsibilities, additional duties include: answering operations and procedural questions; logging equipment malfunctions; handling complaints from citizens or patrol; compiling statistics; and conducting reviews on various issues or items related the performance or operations of the Communication Center as well as performance evaluations of dispatch staff. May serve as a liaison with other cities and agencies providing dispatch services in the region. May also be required to perform dispatching duties due to emergencies or staffing shortages.

Shift hours TBD with potential for swing shift and weekend hours on occasional rotation.


Qualifications:

High School diploma, or G.E.D. and four years of full-time experience as a Public Safety Dispatcher, including at least one year as a lead or supervisor.  Preference will be given to those applicants with a proven supervisory or leadership and management background.  A combination of experience and education which provides the application with the desired knowledge, skills and abilities to perform the job will be considered. 

Licenses & Certifications:
  • Valid WA State Driver’s license required at time of hire.
  • ACCESS Level II Certification required within six months of hire or as determined by the department.
  • Completion of WSCJTC Telecommunicator certification I and II.
  • Communications Field Training certification or ability to obtain within one year.
Special Requirements:

Due to the confidential and sensitive nature of information handled, successful completion of a background investigation, psychological evaluation and polygraph is required.

Application Review & Assessment Center:

The first application review will occur February 15, 2018.  An assessment center is tentatively scheduled for top applicants March 8, 2018.
