Summary
These two (2) positions provide planning support for the Utilities Department. The specific tasks assigned to each position may include either or both asset management and/or system capacity analysis, for the water, sewer and/or storm utilities, depending on the City's current needs and the interests and skills of the selected candidates. The asset management program ensures existing infrastructure is maintained, repaired, and replaced in the most cost-effective manner. This involves evaluating infrastructure condition, pipeline breaks/failure history, remaining life, life cycle costs, service level goals, business risk exposure, and appropriate long term maintenance and funding strategies. One of the primary outcomes is prioritization of infrastructure repairs and replacement. System capacity analysis ensures that future growth is accommodated, and evaluates the utility systems' hydraulic capacity to meet current and projected needs. This includes analysis of telemetry data, system hydraulics (modeling), population and water demand projections, etc. This work also involves planning for emergency conditions such as fires, main breaks, and regional disasters. To support these tasks, either position may require fieldwork to collect water, sewer and/or storm drainage facility data. Either position could also support efforts related to seismic resiliency, and/or utility system expansion or relocation to accommodate development or transportation projects.

Hours: The successful candidates are expected to work full time during the summer months and 10 to 15 hours per week during the school year. Hours of work during the school year are flexible and can be arranged around the student's course work requirements. This position is expected to be able to work during the school year so no students from schools outside of the Bellevue-Seattle area (greater than 60 miles from Bellevue City hall) will be considered. Telecommunicating is not an option.
