Under the supervision of Events and Recreation Coordinator, assists in organizing, scheduling, conducting, and evaluating various recreational activities; prepare recreational facilities for participants’ use; and monitor recreational activities to ensure that activities are safe and appropriate.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities

1) Assists in conducting, monitoring, presentation, and administration of indoor and outdoor recreational activities and programs at various locations throughout the City.


2) Identify and evaluate target population needs and recommend/find programs to meet those needs; collect and analyze demographic, participation, and service satisfaction data.


3) Monitor activity in progress or area of responsibility and monitor participant or public conduct to ensure compliance with behavior standards, regulations, guidelines, and safety procedures relating to activity and equipment use.


4) Prepare flyers, posters, newsletters, and other materials to promote programs to increase community awareness and individual participation.


5) Maintain program equipment in good working order; ensure facility and grounds are kept neat, clean, and litter free.


6) Maintains inventory of supplies and equipment; submits requests for items needed for events and activities. Prepares reports and evaluation of events and recreation program goals and effectiveness.


7) Responds to public inquiries in a courteous manner, providing information within the scope of knowledge.


8) Promotes and encourages participation in local fundraising efforts. 


Performs other duties as assigned.  Position will be asked to work weekends, Memorial Day and July 4th. Position will work flexible hours, based on recreations/ event needs.

Knowledge, Skills, Abilities
  • Identifying recreational needs of the specific community group to which assigned and organizing programs to meet these needs.
  • Rules and regulations of sports activities.
  • Health and safety regulations.
  • Proper methods of storing equipment, materials, and supplies.
  • Computer software including MS Office Word, Excel, Publisher, and database management.
  • Schedule, organize, and implement specialized and recreational programs and activities.
  • Promote community interest in specialized and recreational programs.
  • Establish and maintain cooperative and effective working relationships with others.
  • Communicate effectively, both orally and in writing.
  • Instruct and present ideas, rules, and activities in a clear and comprehensible manner.
  • Work with people from a diverse segment of the population.
  • Work evenings and weekends as required with flexible hours.
  • Operate and set up recreational equipment.

Graduation from high school or a GED equivalent. Experience providing in-person service to a diverse public preferred. Education and/or experience providing public service through recreation, community-based programs, physical education, or closely related field.

Requirements: Verification of identity to work in the United States as required by the Immigration Reform and Control Act. This position requires a valid WA State Driver’s License and a valid First Aid and CPR certification or ability to obtain it within six months of employment.

Tools & Equipment Used: Personal computer using Microsoft Office, phone, copy machine, facsimile machine, and document binders.

The employee must occasionally lift and/or move objects up to 30 pounds.  Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.
