The City of Bellevue, Washington is rapidly maturing from a sleepy suburb into a tech centric, vibrant, and diverse metropolitan city within the Puget Sound Region.  The city's planning team is looking for creative urban designers/planners with the technical expertise to help us shape and catalyze positive change. This position requires you, the candidate to have a curious mind, technical prowess, research skills, an open, mature, and diverse view of prevailing social issues. We also need a demonstrated willingness to think beyond the usual or ordinary.
The planning team is busy with numerous big ideas that include station area plans (i.e. Wilburton and BelRed), an extended urban corridor known as the Grand Connection, and a comprehensive new Civic Center area plan that includes expansion of our convention center and a lid over the Interstate 405. We also wish to develop more mature and credible design based urban development clarity on the city's housing typologies, downtown development, and in our neighborhoods. Our work has close interfaces with parks, transportation and neighborhoods. All our efforts have short, mid and long-range implications that interface with existing policies and regulations.
If selected as Associate Planner/- Urban Designer, you will play an important role in the urban design and development planning of the above. Your work will require an ability to help us collectively explain in simple terms complicated issues in highly charged public settings. This assumes you have deep understanding of placemaking, urban design, spatial analysis, and 3D modeling. We expect your skills to allow you (and the team) to assemble packages containing a robust combination of words, numbers, graphics, and illustrations.
