Summary

The City of Sammamish is looking for a motivated Human Resources intern who is ready to apply their knowledge to an authentic real-world experience. As a Human Resources Intern, you will play an integral role in staff recruitment, onboarding, documenting processes and procedures, assuring compliance, and updating new hire information.  Additionally you will be assisting with special projects, screening resumes, scheduling interviews, and maintaining employee files while learning about various HR activities. This is an exciting opportunity for a college student or recent college graduate pursuig a career in Human Resources. At the internship conclusion, you will have gained valuable HR administration skills and experience.

This is a part time 20-25 hours per week position.

 

 


ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Maintain accuracy of, and update employee personnel files in accordance with company policies and government regulations.
  • Compose competent memos to employees to effectively communicate policy and procedural changes.
  • Update job postings in online database and review resumes to recruit qualified individuals for specific open positions.
  • Assist in recruitment activities and special projects as needed. 
  • Attend staff meetings and other meetings as instructed.
  • Prepare documentation for new and prospective hires.
  • File documents and answer phone calls.
  • Provide quality customer service.
  • Other duties as assigned.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint
  • Knowledge of US Labor Laws
  • Must have exceptional oral, written and interactive communication skills
  • Skilled in effective research tactics and great organization skills
  • Ability to maintain high standards of confidentiality
  • Ability to convey a positive and professional image to internal and external customers
  • Reliable and proactive
  • Independent, self-led learner
SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS

Must successfully complete all background checks and pre-employment screening. 

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Graduate or currently enrolled in college/university with junior standing or above.  Prefer course work or pursuit of a degree in Human Resources Management, Business Administration, or related field. 

PHYSICAL DEMANDS AND WORKING CONDITIONS

The physical demands and work environment described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of the job.  The work is performed primarily indoors with long periods of sitting.  The noise level in the work environment is moderately noisy.
