Crime Analyst - City of Kirkland ( Job # 19-0139)

Minimum Salary: $32.69 per hour
Maximum Salary: $40.81 per hour

Summary

Perform professional crime analysis duties supporting operational, investigative and administrative law enforcement functions. Develop and analyze data to identify crime trends, patterns and series in support of police operations.  Analyze criminal activity and provide actionable data-driven research, bulletins and statistical reports to support investigative and proactive policing efforts and to facilitate departmental planning and decision-making.

PRINCIPAL ACCOUNTABILITIES

  • Conduct investigative research and analysis related to suspects, incidents, locations, and trends. Use quantitative and qualitative methodologies such as link analysis, event flow analysis, activity charting and statistical methods to identify and interpret crime series, patterns, trends and activity. Forecast trends to aid in the effective allocation and deployment of police resources
  • Prepare reports and bulletins to assist in criminal investigations. Prepare graphic displays including charts, maps, diagrams, timelines, calendars and related materials to effectively present findings. Initiate target profile analyses and provide investigative leads
  • Serve as a liaison between the department and outside law enforcement and governmental agencies. Routinely collaborate with area crime analysts, detectives, and officers to actively identify and analyze multijurisdictional crime series and trends, and recommend response efforts to address them
  • Develop, maintain and utilize automated database reporting tools to respond to inquiries for police data and information internally as well as from other city departments, the public, media, community groups, businesses and other law enforcement agencies

Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university with major coursework in statistics, management, criminal justice, public administration, or a related field.  Two years of experience in a public agency involving research methods and statistical analysis, with experience in a law enforcement agency preferred.

Excellent oral communication, technical report writing, and public presentation skills required.  High degree of proficiency in software applications such as:  Word, Excel, Access, PowerPoint, specialized statistical software, and automated database reporting tools.  Must successfully complete all required law enforcement background investigation processes.  

Preferred Qualifications

Crime analysis certification preferred.   Experience with software applications such as:  iBase, Analyst Notebook, Power BI, Tableau, Crystal Reports, SQL, and Python desirable.

Hours of Work

To be mutually determined at time of job offer.    Flexible work schedule is available.

Working Conditions & Physical Activities

Work is performed in a typical office environment.   Incumbent is frequently required to sit for extended periods of time while performing keyboard functions at a computer work station.
